On a whim, I tried something new yesterday. I ordered savoury soy milk soup from the Shanghainese restaurant down the street from where I live. The soup was quite thick, with processed seaweed, pieces of fried bread ( you tiao in Chinese, somewhat like croutons but less dense) and chilli seasoning. I didn't think it was worth the $4.80 I paid for it but it was worth a try nonetheless. Plain soy milk soup was priced at $3.
