Company Review

Quickflix is the Australian version of Netflix. Never having used Netflix, I can hardly do a fair comparison. However, I think Quickflix has someway to go before I'd eschew the neighbourhood rental store in their favour.

After a 3 week trial subscription with Quickflix, this is what I found out. Their range of movies were quite limited and several of the films I was interested in were "premium" titles -- even for relatively old movies. Delivery was quite prompt -- I picked movies I knew were available and they arrived in the mail a few days later. The quality of the DVDs (not the movies) were appalling; about half way through both movies, Windows Media Player started having problems with playback. One DVD had a different region encoding, which I managed to get around but it was still annoying.

When I wanted to cancel my account, I found out that I couldn't do it online and I had to call in during office hours where I had to listen to a very annoying AVR service a couple of times before I figured out how I could actually reach a human being.

Unlike some other established companies, they don't ask why you no longer want to do business with them. Or maybe their staff haven't been well trained.

Oh, and one last thing. If you still feel inclined to sign up with them, pick a password that you don't use anywhere else or with sensitive accounts like your bank account. They don't understand the meaning of password security.

Hi S,

My name is Andrew and I'm the Membership Manager here at Quickflix. I'm sorry to hear that you had a negative experience with us and wanted to offer some explanation.

We offer a free trial of the service in order for members to get a feel for how online DVD rental works prior to making a payment to us. Within the trial period there are a small section of DVDs that are unavailable, as we reserve high demand 'Premium Content' for our paying members. As we have over 35,000 titles available for rental on the site, trialists will still have access to around 34,000 titles, more than 10 times that of a traditional video store.

All Quickflix DVDs are checked and cleaned regularly, it is unusual to receive a damaged disc and we will always replace any disc that is reported as damaged with a working copy. All Quickflix DVDs are region 4 as we are only able to purchase Australian releases due to copyright laws. If you received a disc from another region please let us know which disc it was so that we can investigate further.

Quickflix accounts can only be cancelled by calling our Member Care team, however you should never have to wait long to reach us as we have a large compliment of staff waiting to take your call. Our IVR system has several options to choose from to ensure that you reach the correct operator for your enquiry. Your password, email address and name will always be asked for in order to comply with the privacy act. This information is never disclosed to any other organisation and is strictly confidential. The reason for your cancellation should always be asked for when cancelling an account, I will personally ensure this practice is being followed for each call as this feedback is essential for the continual improvement of our service.

Again I am sorry to hear that your experience with us was not a positive one, we pride ourselves on providing a very high level of member satisfaction. We welcome you back to the service at any time should you decide to use us in the future.

Kind Regards,

Andrew Kirkwood
